Northwest Solution Services (NWSS) is a comprehensive community mental health center that was established in 2019, with a five-county service area in Northwestern Minnesota that includes Clay, Baker, Otter Tail, Becker, Ramsey, Hennepin, and Anoka counties.
It was founded on the premise of providing holistic, community-based, culturally competent, outpatient therapy, therapeutic assessments, community psycho-educational groups, and clinical training services.
NWSS collaborates with other service providers to provide culturally competent community-based mental health services needed in Clay, Baker, Polk, and Otter Tail counties. There are still shortages of culturally competent providers in these areas and other parts of the state of Minnesota, especially for immigrants, including access to Kurdish, Somalis, Bosnians, and West African-speaking mental health services. NWSS will help bridge the gap between competent care and clients that need extra cultural attention.
In the area of mental health, the demand outweighs the supply for culturally competent ARMHS services in Baker, Clay, Otter Tail counties, and neighboring counties in Minnesota. Therefore, NWSS will enhance the local mental health system and provide services to those who do not seek them today due to lack of representation and other barriers like language or culture.
